Product Information
Oregon sunstone from Butte Mine minimum .90ct 6.5mm round. Gemstone
Mined in the United States and cut in India. Color will vary.
Oregon's Sunstone Butte Mine is one of the premier sources of gem-quality sunstone in the world today. What sets this mine apart are the sizes, colors and better-than-usual clarity of many of the crystals found there. Formed as result of volcanic activity in the region over 15 million years ago, Oregon sunstone is a natural copper-bearing labradorite feldspar. During the seasonal mining season that runs from mid May until early October, miners find beautiful crystals in colors ranging from near colorless, yellow, red to green, with bi-colored gems occasionally found. The crystals often exhibit the optical property (phenomenon) called aventurescence, meaning they contain very small reflective platelets of native copper. Creating a glittering effect in sunlight, this is known as the stone's schiller and is highly desirable among collectors of phenomenal gems. Since 1987, sunstone has been Oregon's official state gem and it's no wonder why! Don't miss this opportunity to add this special American Splendor™ gem to your collection today.
The American Splendor Collection is our salute to the magnificent gems and minerals of the United States. Rivaling the beauty and splendor of gems found across the globe, each is a prime example of many of the most desirable gems available today. From dazzling Herkimer quartz of New York to vibrant garnet and peridot of Arizona to the beautifully unique opals of Oregon's high deserts, each gemstone carries the pedigree of being born in the USA. Collect the wonder of America's own gems and minerals today at Jewelry Television and jtv.com.
